Removable appliances are used frequently when adjusting the developing jaws and teeth of children. There are different types of removable appliances. The ones I frequently use are the following:
Active plates, Fränkel’s functional regulator, Balthers’ bionator, the activator appliance, bite jumper plates and bite back shift plates.
Depending on the examination results we carefully choose the removable appliances that will best serve each patient.
After a removable appliance has served its purpose (over a period of up to three years) the fine tuning for the final position of each tooth will be done with a fixed appliance.
